The literature exhibition "Pesticides: pros and cons" was opened at the RSLS&T in the Reading room for ecology, priority sciences and technology developments (room 210) from September 29 to November 23.
In the modern world, more than a thousand different pest control products are used. At first, people used natural products, and from about the middle of the 19th century, chemists came to the aid of farmers. Thanks to pesticides, we do not experience food problems, but the effects of pesticides are not so clear: these substances can be toxic, carcinogenic, and mutagenic. In the editions presented at the exhibition, issues related to the impact of pesticides on the environment are considered. The theoretical and applied aspects of the environmental safety of the technological process of spraying pesticides are highlighted, the characteristics of pesticides permitted for use in the Russian Federation, types of contaminants and toxicants, methods of cleaning contaminated soils and waters from pesticides are given. Problems and irregularities in pesticide waste disposal are analyzed.
