Two new protected areas may be established in the Murmansk region

Employees of the Kola Scientific Center of the Russian Academy of Sciences, the Polar-Alpine Botanical Garden-Institute and the Laboratory for Sustainable Development of the Project Office for the Development of the Arctic suggested to create two regional natural monuments in the Khibiny, in the vicinity of Kirovsk: Gorodskaya Shchel Gorge and Yuzhnoe Skvoznoe and Skalnoe Gorge. This suggetion was put forward at the recent symposium "Territorial nature protection of Northern Eurasia: from theory to practice".
At the event, the issues of using the methods of "civil science" in environmental protection, approaches to the compilation of the Red Data Books of various levels and regional environmental documents, and many more were raised.
