Happy Geographer Day!

18 august, 2020

Today, August 18, our country for the first time in its history celebrates a new public holiday - the Day of the Geographer. It was established by the Government of Russia. The day of the founding of the Russian Geographical Society was chosen as the date of the celebration: on August 18, 1845, Emperor Nicholas I approved the temporary charter of this organization.

The holiday is celebrated not only by geographers, but also by people of many geographically related professions: scientists, teaching staff of schools and universities, employees of ministries and departments, workers and employees, polar explorers. All of them were congratulated on the holiday by the dean of the Faculty of Geography of Moscow State University, corresponding member of RAS Sergei Dobrolyubov and President of the Faculty of Geography of Moscow State University, First Vice-President of the Russian Geographical Society, Academician of the RAS Nikolai Kasimov.
