Interactive activities for W.I.D.E. School students

On October 12, 2021, within the framework of All-Russia Science Festival «NAUKA 0+» interactive activities for the students of the secondary school «The world. Intellect. Discovery, Education» (W.I.D.E. School) took place: “Our contemporary V. I. Vernadsky” and “Open lesson on the climate change”.

Organizers: Russian National Public Library for Science & Technology, V.I. Vernasky Non-governmental Ecological Foundation and W.I.D.E. School.

Alla M. Volynskaya, Head of Educational Projects of V. I. Vernasky Non-governmental Ecological Foundation, delivered the lecture “Our contemporary V.I. Vernadsky” to make the kids acquainted with the personality and scientific heritage of the great Russian mastermind.

 

Within the framework of the Festival, the interactive scientific and practical seminar on climate change took place. The students discussed the phenomena of weather and climate, climate changes in different epochs and these changes’ impact on human lives (the theoretical part was presented by Alla M. Volynskaya, Head of Educational Projects of V.I. Vernasky Non-governmental Ecological Foundation). In the practical part, the students were to determine the average monthly temperature for December in several Russian cities and analyze the sources like the Chronicle of the Main Physical Observatory (1890), and the data of the official Roshydrometcenter website (the practical part was supervised  by Elena F. Bychkova, Leading Researcher, Head, Ecology and Sustainable Development Projects, Russian National Public Library for Science and Technology).

 

Then, the participates discussed the Gulf Stream’s affecting climate change in Europe an Russia’s European territories and concluded on the effects of climate change for the population (the analytical part was supervised by P. V. Mironov, geography teacher, W.I.D.E. School). The W.I.D.E. School 7-th graders and teachers participated in the activities. .
